THE VILLAGE
Grolejac is quite a big village on the south bank of the Dordogne, 10kms south of the well known medieval town of Sarlat. The village has 3 restaurants, a bakery, butcher and delicatessen and a small supermarket so most needs can be supplied locally. There are 2 canoe stations on the river in the village; a cycle path from Grolejac to Sarlat (10km)and Souillac (20km) and bicycles can be hired locally. There is a tennis court about 3 minutes walk from the house and we have membership to cover all guests who are staying. One of the restaurants is only a few minutes walk from the house and is also on the lakeside.
THE LAKE
The lake has a safe beach for swimming and sunbathing just a short walk from the house. It is also possible to fish in the lake and licences and fishing tackle for hire can be acquired locally. The water is clean and safe for swimming and the lake is peaceful because no motor boats or jetskis are allowed to use it. It takes a leisurely half an hour to walk around the lake.
THE AREA
Grolejac is in the heart of the Dordogne and within easy reach of all the chateaux, bastides and well known beauty spots for which the area is so famous. The caves at Lascaux and Padirac are within an hour’s drive, as is Rocamadour and the vineyards of the Lot valley. Medieval Sarlat with its wonderful architecture, restaurants and renowned markets is just 10 minutes drive away. The attractive market town of Gourdon lies 10kms to the south – it also has excellent restaurants and many places to visit. There are golf courses in the area and horse riding establishments nearby.
